ANA Note

Antibody results should not be used alone for diagnosis and must be interpreted in light of clinical manifestations and other test results.

Positive ANA results are associated with the presence of detectable autoantibodies to specific extractable nuclear antigens (ENAs) and indicate risk for systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease, particularly systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Sjogren’s Syndrome, and mixed connective tissue disease.  ENAs (SS-A/Ro, SS-B/La, Smith, U1RNP, RNP70, Centromere B, Jo-1, Scl-70 Antibodies) will be tested on positive samples.

dsDNA Note

Antibody results should not be used alone for diagnosis and must be interpreted in light of clinical manifestations and other test results.

A positive result for double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibodies in the appropriate clinical context is suggestive of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
