Collection Instructions

Submit fresh in sterile container labeled with two patient identiers.

Sample material must be obtained from the lower respiratory tract either induced or from a deep cough. Saliva or nasal aspirates are not suitable. Specimen submitted for 3 consecutive days increases diagnostic yield.

Specimens delivered after hours should be refrigerated.
